I teach seventh grade students in a rural Georgia community. My class load is made up of 2 regular education classes and 2 gifted classes. I teach a total of 92 students daily.

We study the Eastern Hemisphere in 7th grade Social Studies. The Middle East, Africa, and Asia are places that most of my students have limited experience with. It is often difficult to get them to relate to what we are studying when it involves the other side of the world!

Students are easily bored today with social studies concepts and places so far removed from them. Asking them to take what they have learned and draw or otherwise visually represent it helps them to apply what they are learning and make it more real to them. I am asking for white drawing paper and colored pencils so that my students may have the opportunity to bring their learning to life!

I have had to beg and borrow art supplies from the art teacher in our building and I am about to wear out my welcome with him! Your contribution will help my students better understand the people and places on the other side of the world that are so important to them becoming the productive 'citizens of the world' that we want them to be!
