Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where ninety-nine percent of our students receive free meals. My students always try their best at everything and anything, despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.

They are already not expected to have it as easy as others, but we learn that with hard work and consistency, they can be "unique" or different from the rest.

My students are so eager to learn that it makes coming to work easy!

My Project

Covid has brought so many challenges to the classroom. The biggest challenge is the lack of supplies for each student to have their own set of everything. With my class being at home this year they have lost many supplies and the whiteboards are one of the things they have lost and I would like to use them every day.

Navigating a classroom conversation can be difficult in both the in-person and digital worlds.

These whiteboards help students interact and share without needing to say a word!

Whiteboards allow each student to be actively involved at the same time.

They all get to write down answers and they all can share what they know.

This project will provide a whiteboard for each student to keep in their homes so they can show me their answers and I can check for understanding. One of my goals is to have them complete a math problem on the dry erase board, show their boards on Zoom, and get instant feedback. I use formative assessments to help gauge instruction. If I see my students are not comprehending something, I can see it right away on the boards.

Thank you for considering my project.
