My classroom is always "buzzing." Students are discussing, interacting and working together ALL of the time. Some may say that my room is loud. My room isn't loud, its interactive. It is important to me that my students see each other as equal peers and learn from each other.
My school is a high poverty school, with very eager students and parents that want to be involved.
My students want to learn and do well. They strive to be their best. I encourage and require their most analytic and critical thinking.
My school strives to do their best. Chicago Public School's budgets have been cut drastically. We do not have a budget for paper, expos, chart paper or tape. A teacher can only spend so much on their classroom before their pocket book becomes depleted.
Parents try to help, but their budgets are nil.
I am looking for some outside support to help my students with their learning.
My Project
I am requesting 2 Flip Charts and 13 sets of dry erase markers to have Anchor charts all around them for clear, concise procedures and ideas.
In order for me to do my best teaching, I need to be able to do quick assessments. I need to see what my students know and do not know. I do this by giving each student a mini white board and expo marker. I then can ask questions or ask for specific answers - QUICKLY. The students write down their answers and then hold up their white board. I then can see who I need to work with.
Easel paper is very helpful for taking notes for the entire class and displaying anchor charts for directions and note taking. Easel paper is expensive and we do not get this paper often at my school. Students need to see vocabulary, math words, scientific methods ALL YEAR LONG. Easel paper is easy to take to the wall for a great reference.
Expo markers will engage student learning and help me assess my students.
Assessing students is a number one priority for me. I need to know where my students are at in their learning, so I can encourage the students that are struggling and enrich the students are able to understand the lessons immediately.
