Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to read. They are very curious and they are quite opinionated. We are a Title 1 school. Most of my students live in a home where a second language is spoken however we also have African-American and multi-racial students. When we started the school it was apparent right from the beginning that my students love to read. We started a new reading program and students are required to read 30 minutes a day. They have all responded well to this expectation. The first two weeks of school we were able to read together for 20 minutes without interruption. They love graphic novels.

My Project

Student will be paired up. They will be given the problem 1.40 divided by .7. They will have to use the cash and money to find the quotient. They will be given several similar problems. This will help them to visually see how money and numbers relate.

As they work with the play money it will link their understanding of more abstract concepts.

This is difficult for many of our students.

My goal is for them to have fun with the money and gain an understanding of division of whole numbers and decimals.

The headphones will help with listening to audio books to help increase reading comprehension
