Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.

Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.

I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors to provide these supplies.

My Project

Each year, my fifth grade students are given lessons in financial literacy throughout the year. I am always amazed at how many of my students still have great difficulty counting money, making change, and figuring out tax on items.

I would like to have a set of plastic sleeves, erasable markers and erasers, to use with the practice worksheets for money skills.

In addition to these financial literacy worksheets that can be reused each year, I would like to have a few books about money for our classroom library to share with the students. The students will not only be able to practice their math and money skills with the worksheets, but they will be able to read these books during their silent reading time in class.
