My Students

My room is a busy place full of diverse learners! We are a middle school special education classroom currently serving students in grades 5-7 in a small town of around 1,500 people.

Our students have a wide array of special needs including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and ADHD.

They are a hard working group of kids who learn best through hands-on activities and experiences. We are dedicated to giving our students the skills they need to be successful in the classroom and community.

My Project

The goal of this project is to create 12 independent work boxes that will help my students learn and practice skills such as identifying coins, counting money and making purchases. My students learn best through practice and repetition, and these work boxes will be a part of our daily classroom routines.

Many of my students rarely have the opportunity to handle money or make money-related decisions.

These work boxes will provide them with chance to gain essential life skills in a fun and engaging way! We need many basic supplies to fill these boxes, such as play money, dice, clothes pins, calculators and small piggy banks.
