Help me give my students spectrum tubes to examine the evidence that electrons are located in energy levels.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Julien's classroom raised $324

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In a typical day in my classroom, 30 students work on basic Biology and Chemistry labs. They are engaged and enthused about learning biological and chemical principles. They work collaboratively and actively participate in class. At the end of the year, I want them to gain proficiency in Biology and Chemistry and see its relevancy.
They speak English, French, Spanish, Wolof, and Igbo among other languages.
They are typical teenage students who are going through typical teenage challenges: peer acceptance, relationships, etc. They also have some challenges that are germane to their environment. There are gang related issues, poverty, and unemployment. This project is particularly aimed at providing them with opportunities to examine macroscopic chemical phenomena.
My Project
The students will use the spectrum tubes to reveal the characteristic spectral lines of elements and enable astronomers to study stars, nebulae, galaxies, and even the universe. Spectrum tubes allow students to examine the spectrum of gases and learn their characteristic colors. Wavelengths can be demonstrated with diffraction grating spectrometers. Students can use the tubes to learn about the atomic emission spectrum of an element which is the set of frequencies of the electromagnetic waves emitted by atoms of the element. Each element's atomic emission spectrum is unique and can be used to identify an element or determine whether that element is part of an unknown compound.
