My students need a sensory color changing light table and manipulatives to use on the light table, to create new and exciting ways to practice identifying and writing the alphabet, numbers, patterns and sight words!
I teach in a small, rural school with the student population less than 450 for all of K-12. We have a very high percentage of families who qualify for free and reduced price lunch which also qualifies us school wide for Title I. With a $200 annual classroom budget, I am able to buy things such as construction paper, writing paper, tape, paint, markers and such. I then rely on writing grants to keep my classroom materials fun and engaging.
I would love to offer my students a light table that they can go to with paper, pencils, and activities for reading, writing and math.
The materials I am requesting in this grant would set us up nicely for those 3 subject areas. I have requested a light table, some manipulatives for math and stencils or templates for reading and writing. This looks so inviting to me as an adult and I know my students would love to be able to practice their different skills with the light table.
My Project
In September, my students in Kindergarten will all show up with various levels of skills. Some students will have attended preschool and some may have their first experience in a structural school setting. To the inexperienced child this can cause a lot of stress and nervousness. In order to calm the nerves of my students, I assure them that we are all going to learn fun and exciting skills at a pace that feels right to each person. I then show all of the different activities we have available to spark the interest of each and every child.
I want every student in my class to be excited to come to school each day and learn something new!
