Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a low-income and high minority area where English is often the second language in the home. Many of our students come to first grade not prepared to learn the on level materials. However, it is our goal to make sure that we lower this gap and seek to help every single student to become on level in ready for college by the time they enter middle school.
They are very engaged in learning, drawing pictures and many kinds of learning activities, and we have been working so hard to in reading too.
However, many of them also have difficulty completing practices at home because of lack of supplies and resources.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and phonics. When we work in small groups, my students will have a chance to make drawing on their whiteboards to work out the math problems, which help them engaged more often while give me a chance to see how they figure it out. During centers time, students like to draw and color to keep them occupied while being as quiet as possible.
As first graders, number counting and alphabet recognition are important for my students to enter the higher level learning, that is why I ordered supplies of numbers and alphabet learning kits.
As we all know, reading is important. Thats why we have been working with our students to develop habit of reading. I ordered some books so that we can read as a whole community except for DEAR time.
