Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We teach in an urban school district with a lot of diversity, where many families may not have the means to contribute to the supplies needed in our learning environment. These tools will give the students the necessary materials to help them fully participate and demonstrate their learning. We have very active and inquisitive students in our three 2nd grade classes. These tools will help keep our lessons exciting and enriching. The students who would benefit from these supplies are classrooms with English as a new language students, students with learning challenges and IEPS, and regular education students.

My Project

With the changes in schools with the COVID virus, student materials will no longer be shared. Seat sacks will help students to organize and store individual materials at their own desk to avoid moving through the classrooms and potentially spreading germs.

The use of white boards in 2nd grade is essential to active learning.

Whether in remote learning or in person, white boards are easily used to allow students to each show their learning. Teachers can easily see if students are understanding the concept at a quick glance when all students show their own boards. These also make it possible for all students to be engaged. They are used frequently in math so that teachers can monitor how students work to solve problems and where they need additional support. There is more active participation when all the students have an opportunity to solve and share their answers. With the new classroom configurations and distancing requirements, teachers can quickly scan a classroom to determine student understanding and gaps.
