Help me give my students each their own Transition to School Backpack. This backpack contains materials and hands-on activities that students can complete at home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I will be teaching a class of 24 three and four-year-olds. All of them are low-income English Language Learners considered at risk. However, knowing the community where I have been teaching for more than ten years, I believe my kids are eager to begin this exciting new chapter in their lives.
For most of my students this is the beginning of their formal education and I strive to prepare them not only for the next school year but also to make them lifelong independent learners.
My Project
I am requesting backpacks with Back-to-School supplies for students to use at home. Due to our current situation, our school will begin with virtual learning for at least the first semester. My preschool students will need at least the very basic manipulatives and hands on activities to succeed during this school year.
For me to be able to implement my lesson, activities and homework; I would like to make it fair for my students by at least giving them the opportunity to have access to the same materials to work with.
These materials will help my students with number recognition, letter recognition, sorting, counting, making patterns, and writing. Using these manipulatives during a virtual lesson will keep students engage and will help us to shorten our distance learning.
