Short Stories for Middle School Readers

Help me give my students a collection of short stories written by Asian American authors. This book will serve as a focus of our Middle School reading club meetings in spring.

My Project

The materials I am requesting in this project will bring exciting reading experiences to middle school students in the afterschool reading club. We have been meeting regularly for several years to enjoy reading and discussing books together.

The book You Are Here: Connecting Flights edited by Ellen Oh is a collection of 12 short stories masterfully woven together.

We have read Ancestor Approved, also written in this way as a collaboration of authors, and the students loved the concept. It is like reading 12 different books that connect with one theme and the characters' paths cross throughout the narration. (Donors Choose community made reading Ancestor Approved possible as well!) Selecting You Are Here would allow us to continue reading diverse authors and expanding our reading landscape.

The second part of this project is printer ink, which is a classroom essential since I am always printing student photos, colorful picture cards, mini books and other supplementary instructional materials. This project will reach an excited group of middle school readers and all my multilingual learners who would benefit from getting learning tools in color.
