I have the extraordinary honor of getting to teach Literacy to the almost 1,200 students in my K-5 school. As the Literacy teacher for every student, I don't have the luxury of asking for supplies from a classroom of students.
My school is one of the largest, if not the largest, K-5 school in the state.
With close to 1,200 Kindergarten through fifth graders, every day is an adventure. We have over forty different languages and dialects of languages spoken at our school. Many of the students in our school are first and second generation Americans, so learning to read and write is extremely important.
My Project
Missing school due to illness could drastically set back a first generation American from excelling and succeeding at school. My classroom is in desperate need of classroom-safe sanitizers and cleaners to keep the viruses and infections away. With over 1,200 students coming in and out of the classroom weekly, germs are running rampant. With the Enterovirus, the flu, and many other common colds and illnesses, the last thing students need is to get sick.
Parents work hard to instill healthy habits at home, but it's important to reinforce those in the classroom.
With today's students spending an average of 30 hours per week at school, teachers and parents need to work together to establish healthy schools by reducing the spread of germs that cause flu, colds, and other illnesses.
