Help me give my students the means to use these materials, craft sticks for creating furniture, paper for walls, pom poms for lights, pillows, etc., and glue to put it all together, to create something of their own.
My students enjoy creating their room design. They are very excited to make the room the way they want and not what their parents want. The students use their creative skills to make furniture for the room, as well as windows, doors, curtains, pictures, lights, and all the required items for their grade.
The students are very good at improvising, thinking on their own, about what they need and how to make it work with the supplies given to them.
100% of my students do this project, and by the due date! The students are very helpful to one another when asked to help a peer, clean up, or straighten supplies. They want to be successful and help others to be successful too. I wasn't able to take pictures as the students worked, but I have a picture of four of the finished products.
My Project
Our Interior Design Unit will allow students to use these materials to create a "ROOM IN A BOX", basically a bedroom, but can be any room. The craft sticks have been used to construct furniture, doors, windows, dressers, tables, etc. The printed paper is used for wallpaper, flooring, and whatever they think of to use it for. The pom poms, students have used for lights, pillows, bean bag chairs. They hot glue or glue everything together as well as to the shoe box. However, the students come up with their own ideas for these materials too.
This project brings out the creative side of the students and allows them think beyond their level.
