My Students

I am lucky enough to work with some of the best students in the world. Each year I think, "I will never again have such great students," and the next year I am blessed, once again, with the best students ever.

I am a middle school teacher at a high needs school in Maryland.

Our student population is quite diverse. We serve both military and non-military students, so our students are military "brats" who move around a lot, living in poverty who receive free and reduced-price lunch, middle class students, and homeless students living in a shelter. The majority of our student's school supplies are provided by the staff at our school.

My Project

Students at our school are required to wear uniforms on a daily basis. In a school where many of the kids wouldn't be able to afford the latest style or the newest trend, a uniform is a great way of putting everyone on an equal playing field (so to speak). At our school, students wear khaki pants and either a red, navy, or a white polo shirt. This poses a big problem when you have a very transient population and families who may not be able to jump in and buy new shirts when a student moves in to our school.

I do not want my kids to worry about whether or not they have a uniform shirt to wear to school.

For this reason I am asking for your help in getting uniform shirts for my students. They have more important things to worry about, like learning the content than to have to stress about whether they will have a uniform appropriate shirt.
