Help me give my students stacking chairs that are not mismatched and broken. I work in a rural school near Ithaca and many of my students are from low socioeconomic households.

My Project

Our elementary school is a rural school that has limited resources at its disposal and has to often go without some basic amenities for the classroom. One such staple that is lacking in our classroom is chairs for the students. The current selection of chairs are mismatched, often broken and poorly sized. Students come to our room, which I share with three other teachers, for reading groups, literacy special education, response to intervention education (RTI), math academic intervention support, and English as a New Language Education (ENL).

New chairs would send the message that my students matter, deserve nice things, are cared about, and would give them a brighter environment.

Our students are all struggling in various ways and often come from lower socioeconomic means, so have both academic and personal hurdles to overcome. We want to have a more welcoming and inspirational environment to make them feel wanted and uplifted.
