Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students SHINE...Safe, Helpful, Impressive, Nice and Engaged! Through our PBIS system and motto, students are recognized when exhibiting those characteristics. Any staff member on our campus can easily recognize students by awarding them a point when demonstrating SHINE.
As students earn points, they can purchase items from our Shine Store.
Our store consists of many items that peak the interests of all students. From arts, crafts, sports, board games and miscellaneous fun items, students are excited to see what they can purchase!
At the beginning of this initiative, students were excited to purchase an item, However, over the past three months and as expensive items were appearing in the store, students began to learn the value of saving. Our first grade students were overheard talking about saving for certain items. What an important life lesson at a young age!
When talking to teachers throughout K-8 grade, teachers have noticed a positive shift in behavior, work ethic and kindness, which is the goal of PBIS. As our older participate in this PBIS system, some of these students choose to fulfill orders every Thursday and deliver those items every Friday. They enjoy seeing what is being purchased, but also love seeing the excitement when they enter the room with the box of goodies!
