This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school come from various backgrounds. Several of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch. We service students in grades K-2 and really promote being a good citizen. Our school really strives to encourage behavior that is acceptable when transitioning in the halls, while in the lunchroom, and in the classrooms. To help promote good behavior, we have set up a program entitled, Shine Bright Like a Diamond Reward System. We recognize students from each grade level every day that exhibits positive behavior and possesses an outstanding attitude.
We are helping our students become good citizens now so that it will carry over to adulthood.
I am the reading specialist at the school and I pride myself in helping them become the best students they can be. We have great students and rewarding them when they do well will motivate them to be the best they can be, at school and at home; which will make everybody's heart happy.
My Project
Students are encouraged to exhibit good behavior in and out of the classroom. Teachers are asked to send names of students to the office who are being the "best" they can be at school. The students' names are called over the intercom and they get to come to the office to retrieve their reward. Students love hearing their names being called and being allowed to choose items like Emoji bracelets, pencils, and notepads. These incentives will definitely motivate them to continue doing their best at school and "Shine Bright Like a Diamond."
I truly believe this incentive program will encourage all the students at our school to make good choices, do their best, and promote character education.
The goal for this reward system is to aide in building teacher-student bonds, which will assist in reducing disruptive behavior. Having these items in their possession will reinforce positive behavior and be a constant reminder that good things comes to those who are good citizens.
There are several students that we deal with on a daily basis that struggle with making good choices from time to time. Sometimes students need a little incentive to help motivate and bring out the best in them. These incentives will be a great way in doing this!
