This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine yourself sitting back...relaxing...and listening to a great story. There is nothing better than being able to engage yourself in one of your favorite stories.
I am currently teaching in a public school that is filled with diversity (35% - Hispanic, 33% - Caucasian, and 32% - African American).
Our school is located in a low-income community, and over 95% of our students qualify to receive free lunch. Our students show a great deal of responsibility and discipline, they are involved in extra curricular activities, and they come to school focused and ready to learn. What more could I ask for?
My Project
Since resources in our school are very limited I am asking for assistance in creating our classroom listening center. I would love to incorporate an iPod docking station that is able to play stories directly from the iPod so that all of my students can enjoy a story at the same time. The best feature of this docking station is that it can be controlled wirelessly. I will no longer have to stay stationed near the radio... waiting to pause, play or rewind the story. Not only will we be able to listen to the same story together, but now we can engage in meaningful discussions together.
The docking station will not only engage the reader, but it will also help students improve fluency, build vocabulary, and increase comprehension skills.
The docking station would be greatly appreciated by myself, and especially my students.
After all, the more exposure the students have to modeled reading, the better readers they will soon become. Thank you for your support!
