Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our amazing school is located in the heart of Southeast Washington, DC. Deemed a historic building, our school boasts some of the best views of the city. While one can view many of the historical landmarks from the building’s top floors, the neighborhood in which we are located has a completely different view. We are located in a high-poverty, crime ridden area. We strive every day to provide our students with a safe, nurturing, and stable environment.

Our students are courageous, bright, bubbly and excited about learning.

They often arrive to school early, eager to start the day. Their smiles and energy can brighten even the grumpiest person’s day! My students are greater than their zip code.

My Project

Blended learning is an important part of the 1st grade curriculum. Our students use the iPads for twenty minutes per day to access reading and phonics programs. We need iPad cases to allow the students to move freely around the room and find a cozy place to work. We also need headphones so that the students can focus on their own iPad and not disturb others around them.

These programs provide supplementary support in critical literacy areas such as phonics and vocabulary.

These programs often help close the achievement gap. The charging stations and the iPad cords will ensure that all of the iPads are charged and ready for the students when they enter the classroom.
