My Students
"Be Together." It's the motto that we live and breathe by every day in the band room. From the music we play to the shirts we wear, our Middle School has a band program that is on the verge of having a spectacular year!
When it comes to our Band, there is never a dull moment during instruction.
Although we are a Title I school located in a low income area with high poverty, energy and passion is what we bring to our rehearsals every day and every block. We have the talent and potential to become the most versatile middle school band program in the county. However, the students and I feel like there is a missing piece to the puzzle to make our music amazing. Our band program would like to provide more opportunities for new and current musicians in all grades by creating an exciting marching drumline. On a yearly basis, our program of about 100 students will be impacted in the experience of a lifetime. Drumlines build a sense of pride and morale for any school or college. Our students currently use school-provided technology (iPads and Chromebooks) to succeed in the classroom. We learn about notation, pitch, balance and blend using a series of applications.
My Project
The bass drum helps improve the timbre and color of the band's sound. Whether you're listening to Mozart's Ode to Joy or listening to your favorite song by the Black Eyed Peas, the bass plays a crucial role providing pulse of an ensemble. The 2 requested Bass drums will be used for weekly rehearsals along with snare drums to accomplish the vision of having a drumline for our middle school. Our students would be thrilled to have students provide musical entertainment for our pep rallies, sporting activities, etc.
Who would ever have thought that middle school musicians could possibly make the crowd stand on their feet and cheer for their favorite team?
Marching bands across the country typically start at a high school level. However, I would like to fund this project not only because we would be one of the few middle schools in Charlotte to have a marching percussion section, but because our school focuses highly on innovation and taking all content areas to the next level.
