My students need chair socks to silence the movement of the classroom chairs during transitions, as well as a heavy duty stapler to use for printed books for our weekly shared and guided reading lessons!

My Students
We are a grade made up of 60 imaginative, creative, smart, loving children! Children who are innocent at heart, with unique personalities, and whose life's possibilities are insurmountable.
My school is located in District 23 in NYC, one of the smallest, yet poorest, crime-ridden neighborhoods in New York City.
A lot of my children live difficult home lives, and I choose to change their experiences within the school and classroom environment as much as I can. Although many of them are faced with problems that are unthinkable to others, they come into my classroom happy and eager to learn.
My Project
Chair socks would reduce the boom and the bang that occurs when classroom chairs are moved around during classroom transitions. The invention, a set of four "socks" that slip over the feet of a chair, was clearly the idea of a frustrated teacher who was looking for a quieter way to move chairs around so kids could work in flexible small groups.
Chair Socks will give me the flexibility to move my students around quickly and quietly into groups.
Classroom noise which is a major distraction and also decreases the chances of productive learning, will drastically be reduced whenever a child gets out of his/her seat because of the chair socks. We transition often and these chair socks will be a great help to making those moves as quiet as possible!
The heavy duty stapler will be a great help to stapling paperback books that we often copy and use for our shared and guided reading lessons. The basic stapler hardly does the job and we often result in using binder clips, which fall off most times. The stapler would make the job of stapling seamless!
The year has just begun and while we are almost set with supplies it is so hard to teach and learn when you are not fully prepared and lacking materials that allow you to perform at your best potential. The chair socks to ease the noise and allow for quiet, smooth transitions, and the heavy duty stapler to gather our teaching and learning materials is just what we need!
