Shelves For Our Bounty of Books

My Students

Promoting kindness and instilling a growth mindset are the foundations for my classroom. One of the first books we read is “How Full is Your Bucket?” This inspires kindness from the beginning of the year. When students can show tolerance, patience, and gentleness for peers and adults within the school setting, the classroom is a warm place to spend the day. Students in my class are able to not only show each other how to be kind little people, but encourage their peers with the “I can do it!” attitude of positivity and growth thinking.

When observing my students you may hear phrases such as: “I am going to train my brain,” or “My brain is getting stronger,” and “I believe in the power of yet!”

Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means fewer food insecurities and more learning. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, “I’ll try anything,” kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.

My Project

Books, books, and more books, oh how we love books! Now, where do we store them? My students love to read self selected books, and we have many. Students read not only during literacy time, but every extra minute they have. They especially like to read to their peers. More reading equals better readers!

I am requesting large, sturdy, and safe bookshelves so our classroom library can be easily accessible for all students. I encourage my students to be independent learners and take care of materials. Having a bookshelf such as the one, will allow the students to easily find and reshelf their own books.
