I teach in a self-contained classroom for children with Autism in North Carolina. We believe our children are not disabled, rather they are differently abled. Our classroom is full of creative, smart, and beautiful children ready and eager to learn. We are focused on reaching every milestone each child can reach. We are determined to help our children reach their goals in any way we can, so please take a look at our grant and consider helping us achieve our goals.
My Project
Our main goal is getting kids ready for the real world. For our children those opportunities aren’t always grand. Few companies want to hire people with disabilities so we are starting early teaching our kids some employable traits. They will follow a schedule to make a completed product to give to the community. We are putting together a workshop for our students to make care bags for homeless shelters. Not only do our kids get to put together the bags but we get to donate them to the community. These bags will consist of deodorant, soap, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrush and floss to help the community shelter. It’ll be worth it to show our students that they can do jobs in the real world and they can make a difference.
