My students need the tablet with cover and the green screen so we can create green screen videos as lesson assessments. They need the glowing balloons and highlighters so they can learn with a blacklight!
We are nestled between Springfield and Clinton, in the Ozark mountains. We are the 'big town' in our county since we have Wal-Mart and restaurants, but we are a far cry from big city life! We have about 200 students per grade level and they are from urban and rural communities extending about 30 miles around Bolivar, Missouri. We have a lot of farms, a large medical facility, and a college.
Our students have spent most of their life in Bolivar, Missouri so we work hard to bring the world to our students.
We have Chromebooks and that helps a lot! Thank you Google for bringing awesome, free apps to education! Our whole district is in the process of innovating our curriculum and my students and I take the first leaps in trying new technology.
My students have built websites, created their own blogs, learned to program science review games, produced class videos, designed and completed passion projects - all in the name of science! We consider ourselves to be leaders in our school and we are always excited to learn something new!
My Project
I would love to have my Chemistry students use the tablet camera and the green screen to capture themselves at different locations around the globe so they can fully explain their understanding of Chemistry concepts. For example, students could go to the beach and talk about the kinetic energy they feel from the sand or they could take a rocket into space and explain how air pressure changes as they move through the atmosphere. The options are endless!
I would like to use the glow in the dark stars, balloons and markers so students can sit in the room with black lights (already own these) and learn about Chemistry.
For one, UV radiation is an excellent example of the EM spectrum and the glowing stars, balloons and markers can be explained by the Bohr model of the atom. In addition, we can use the balloons to model kinetic theory. A solid remains still, a liquid begins to move and a gas is all over the place!
In general, I would use these supplies to continue to teach like a pirate and engage my students with exciting and relevant learning opportunities!
