Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach preschool in a high need, low income public school district. Eighty percent of our students are on free lunch. The majority of our students' parents work at the local meat packing plant. In addition to our American students, we have kids from Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Somalia, and Sudan.

I recently read that the United States ranks 29th in science worldwide. As a parent and a teacher, I find this statistic reprehensible. However, I'm not into blame, I'm into game....so let's start science at the earliest possible time....PRESCHOOL!!!!

My current classroom has no science equipment, save the Styrofoam cups with grass seed sitting on the window sill. I've requested age appropriate science kits that will draw on my students' innate curiosity of their natural world. My students need science materials which include a comprehensive science curriculum package (magnets, plants, colors, and senses), an eruptable volcano, an ant farm, a butterfly garden, and a large view microscope.
