My Students
If you enter my classroom, you will see a diverse group of students building practical math skills to use in the classroom and out. You will hear many accents, as 1/3 of my students are English language learners. You might even smell the leftovers from the free lunch and breakfast all of my students receive. What you won't hear is that most of my students face poverty at home. You won't see that many of them have overcome unimaginable obstacles. You will see the joy of learning; you will hear the effort and work we put in everyday, despite what we go through.
My Project
What was true when we were elementary learners is still true today: math should always been done in pencil. More and more, the art of handwriting and fine motor skills are in dire need of review. We are bringing back some old school life skills.
You will never believe the sheer impact putting a pencil to paper has on learning and retention.
Pencils are practical and perfect. We learn to make mistakes and learn from them. Besides, I am always shocked by how many pencils my students need. Vive la pencil!
