Help me give my students heavy-duty, long-lasting pencil sharpeners for daily use in our classroom!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach at an inner-city, low-income school in Indianapolis. One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free lunch. My 28 fourth-graders come to school with differing needs and backgrounds, but they are all willing and ready to learn and grow.
Although most of my students come to school without daily necessities, I believe it is my duty to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment where they can do their best each and every day.
My students are tremendously hardworking and strive to grow, create, and learn!
Would you believe me if I told you that my classroom has NO pencil sharpener?! It's true! Scholars currently sharpen their pencils using handheld personal pencil sharpeners. This leads to distraction throughout the day, and a lot of pencil shaving messes to clean up! These are definitely not the best way to use our classroom time.
We are in need of heavy-duty and long-lasting pencil sharpeners that are quick and sturdy for 4th-grade learners!
These sharpeners help scholars become more responsible for their sharpening and allow scholars to sharpen quickly and efficiently to maximize classroom instruction time. We have so many pencils for the school year but no way to effectively sharpen them! Having these sharpeners will ease the frustration of having to take so long to hand sharpen, and it will help students not have to worry that they will not have the needed materials to have a successful school day.
