Sharpening Our Skills and Erasing Our Classroom Deficits
My students need a functioning pencil sharpener, markers for group projects and whiteboard work and erasers to enable them to easily change or correct answers.

My Students
Can you imagine being in a classroom of 33 children and having no functioning pencil sharpener? Let me tell you, it is a travesty! We have had to resort to all sorts of creative ways to sharpen our pencils and none of them were very efficient. We are also in need of other helpful supplies.
My students are hard-working 6th graders.
Our school has a small parent/faculty group that work together to provide for our needs. Other than the standard funding that all schools receive, we are not given any additional support from government sources. The children's families have to send in many supplies at the beginning of the year. However there are many items that get so much use they break or just wear out. It is difficult to ask our hard working families to help supply the more expensive items our classroom needs as they are trying to make ends meet.
My Project
Last year, during our high stakes state tests, our classroom pencil sharpener broke. I can't even begin to explain how difficult it was to try to solve this problem. We had multiple hand held sharpeners that we used, but the result is just not the same. Can you remember the feeling of a freshly sharpened pencil? It is one of those things that makes a person feel prepared and competent. The erasers on our pencils are used constantly as the children work on difficult math problems. A fresh eraser will extend the life of our pencils. We also use individual white boards on a daily basis. The children write problems and answers on the boards and share their answers by holding up the white board for me to check the accuracy of their work. The markers and the erasers we use usually wear out by the middle of the year. I would like all of the children to have access to a new marker and eraser when their supply is used up. These basic items will help my students be more successful.
Your donation will help a group of 11-year-old children to have some basic supplies to help them have a more successful school year.
They are simple items but they make a huge difference in a classroom.
