Sharpening Our Minds!

My students need a pencil sharpener because we are working hard on improving our writing skills.

My Students

Do you remember your hand getting sore from sharpening pencils all the time? In my classroom we have one standard pencil sharpener that chews apart the pencils. Our supply list requires students to bring their own plastic sharpeners that break easily. This makes writing very difficult.

I teach in a rural school district.

The majority of my students' parents are feeling the economic crunch. This makes it difficult to ask them for one more thing added to the already lengthy list. These kids are so sweet. They really do try their hardest and want to succeed and please. The students enjoy being there for one another and helping each other in any way possible with their work. This makes me love and want to help them even more.

My Project

Receiving this pencil sharpener will benefit all of my students daily. Every day we write multiple times. We use writing in every subject. Constantly students are asking to sharpen their pencils. This takes away from valuable learning or work time. We have to get out individual sharpeners so that they can try to sharpen their own. This pencil sharpener will allow me to have more time to spend teaching my students because we will be able to focus on work instead of broken pencils. It will also allow for pencils to stay sharpened longer, which will help students produce neater work. This pencil sharpener will help my students learn to enjoy writing and make it a positive part of their day.

Not only will this project help my students with their writing skills, but it will also help them in many subjects.

In math having a sharpened pencil will help them line up their numbers in proper place values. In social studies it can help them mark their maps. This project does not just benefit just one area in my classroom; the sharpener will benefit all areas and all students in my classroom.
