Sharpened Pencils, Sharpened Technology, & Sharpened Minds

My Students

Students of VMS. Community Schools come from a wide range of racially and economically diverse families. Over 30% of the students receive free and reduced lunches, and almost 20% come from single-parent or divorced-parent families. Despite adverse home situations, or perhaps because of, students come to school thirsty for structure, security, love, and knowledge acquisition.

My VMS 5th graders are excited about learning American history and love hands-on projects to learn and understand the causes and effects of historical events.

Providing students opportunities to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate, and observing their excitement about independent and collaborative thought, compels me to make history come alive for my young, active learners.

My Project

The MacBook Pro case will be used to keep one of our classroom laptops safe during our online exploration of authentic historical documents, which students will research and write about.

Generating excitement is the key to learning, and students will be excited to use an electric pencil sharpener which will quickly get them back to work to record thoughts before their minds have time to forget!

The wireless router will enable students to easily access devices in various comfortable places in our classroom and the hallway to work independently or collaboratively with peers.
