This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students face several challenges before they even step onto the school bus each morning. Remembering basic supplies such as pencils and paper is often the last thing on their mind.
The majority of my students have grown up without ever traveling outside of a 50 mile radius of their home.
They are curious students with a desire to learn each and every day. I teach in a school where 98% of my students live in poverty. Despite the many issues that my students face daily, they always come to school with a smile on their face and a mind ready to learn.
My Project
We are asking for basic school supplies that my students lack on a daily basis. My class needs paper, pencils and erasers that can be kept in the classroom for use when materials are forgotten or left at home. We are also asking for a high quality pencil sharpener that students can use. We have worn out several cheap pencil sharpeners already this year and the students have to go on a scavenger hunt throughout the school in order to find a sharpener. Providing our class with these supplies will allow us to cut down on class disruptions and maximize the educational time that we have each day.
This project will allow our class to be prepared every day with sharpened pencils and sharpened minds.
Prepared students are successful students and our class is determined to make every student successful.
