This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a classroom of six and seven-year-olds in a Title I school that is ninety-four percent free or reduced price lunch. My students and their families live below the poverty level; however, they strive to do their best. Most of my students are struggling emergent readers who don't get to experience a lot of things that other students their age across the country get to experience. I hope to bring as many experiences as possible to my students.
Our classroom is a family that loves and respects each other.
Peer to peer tutoring is accepted and enjoyed. My students love learning from other students in the class. They appreciate help and feel loved when they get that special peer to peer help!
My Project
We can count, we can add, but boy, oh, boy subtraction is tricky!
My kiddos need extra practice every day with subtraction.
I want to keep this practice fresh and fun with games. Hiding bumblebees, flipping acorns to feed a hungry squirrel, and shopping for fruit are some of the playful activities my students can explore with these math centers. Learning through play creates opportunities for children to use their imagination and creativity to explore the skills they need for math. My students love to play to learn, and these subtraction games will inspire them to practice in ways they will love! The more hands-on practice these first grade children get, the easier subtraction will become. Please consider donating to help us sharpen our subtraction skills!
