My Project

I teach 5th grade math in a middle school setting. My students are constantly coming to class without a pencil or needing to sharpen their pencil. Earlier this year, a parent donated an electric pencil sharpener to our classroom. Needless to say it didn't hold up to 75 students. Now students are asking for my help to sharpen their pencils and this is taking away from my instruction and their learning time.

My goal in requesting multiple pencil sharpeners is to have one on hand for student use, one for classroom helpers, and one in storage as a backup or for another teacher.

My students are special. Most of my students want to learn and want to do the work. They arrive to school ready to learn but without the proper materials that makes learning hard. Math is not a class you can do without a pencil.
