I am a second grade teacher in a high-poverty area. 88% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Many will be unable to bring even the most basic school supplies. They face many pressures and worries each day and resources at home are scarce. Therefore, I strive to make my classroom a comfortable environment where supplies are plentiful and easy for little ones to use.
Currently we need an electric pencil sharpener and pencils. We could maximize class time with the addition of a fast, quiet sharpener. Students would spend less time struggling with the antiquated manual sharpener and more time focused on instruction. It is very difficult for 7-year olds to quickly and correctly sharpen pencils without an electronic model.
A strong, reliable electric pencil sharpener would make a world of difference in the daily routine of all of our second graders. This small device would make a huge difference in our classroom!
