This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Having a working pencil sharpener is essential for any student and even more so for first grade scholars who love to write.

I teach an enthusiastic group of first graders who love to learn and get so excited about writing.

Since they attend a high ability magnet school, we write a lot. I often tell them they write like second and third graders. This is very true since they write full paragraphs and more.

My Project

With so much writing, it's inevitable that they need their pencils sharpened often. We have one working sharpener in our class, but it is a bit old and it is showing signs of wear. Some of the wires are now exposed, and it just doesn't seem that safe anymore.

We would really appreciate a new and safe sharpener for our writing ventures along with some jumbo writing pencils.
