This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are very eager to learn and love to talk about things that are going on in their lives.
All of my students receive free lunch because of their socioeconomic status. Many of my students don't have typical life experiences. I hope to inspire all of my students to continue on a path of academic excellence and their love of learning.
My Project
How would you feel if you had the potential to create something beautiful but only had black and white? My students are wanting to put color into their projects! We only need colored pencils and a way to sharpen them in the classroom!
The students have been working hard on several things in class such as making and publishing our own book and also finding out important information about the state of Indiana.
How can you turn in a report about Indiana's flag, flower, or tree and not be able to put color into it? If we had colored pencils and sharpeners we could easily do that! It would make learning so much more exciting. Who wants to just write down facts? They want to create and make things stand out so they remember!
