This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite the hurdles they face, my second grades have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Most of them come from low income house holds with parents that don't speak English and yet they are almost all above grade level. Although we don't have top of the line supplies, they are very resourceful with what they have. These students are extremely bright and love learning just about everything! Every lesson I teach is gobbled up by them and they are left wanting for more.

Many of the students in my class have been labeled gifted, and there are many times that they end up teaching me things because of the wonderful way their mind works.

They constantly challenge me, which pleases me to no end.

My Project

I am requesting two pencil sharpeners and some color pencils for my class to use. Unfortunately the two pencil sharpeners I have bought this year have broken and the little hand ones all the kids have mess up the pencils so they end up spending a good amount of learning time trying to sharpen their pencils. This means less time learning and more time standing over the garbage can trying to get their pencils sharp. I am also asking for color pencils because my class has very few to share with each other; this makes coloring things a lengthy process since they have to constantly wait for another student to finish working with the color they need.

In second grade coloring is one of the ways we get students excited about learning, so it is imperative that we get children engaged in learning so they can retain the information they are learning.

Without pencil sharpeners or color pencils they are not able to absorb all the information being taught. Something that seems so small and trivial is really necessary for learning in the classroom.
