In my class I strive to bring out the uniqueness in each of my students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is comfort, exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence. We continue to work on strategies to help all students feel comfortable in a space that they spend about seven hours a day.
My class typically consists of twenty amazing students.
Of those twenty, several are English learners, students who receive resource services, and students who are in speech. Approximately sixty percent of the students are brought up by a grandparent, a single parent, or are in foster care. As of late, some of our school families have been homeless. Everyone - regardless of stature - needs to feel special and loved.
I’m hoping this project will help everyone feel comfortable in our classroom
Comfortable seating and a fun way to share thoughts will help students feel comfortable and help them take charge of their learning and choices.
During independent work times and small group instruction, students will be able to choose an ottoman seat that works for them.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
The Qball throwable microphone is a fun way for students to share their thoughts, concerns and opinions - even the softest of voices will be heard. I was a shy child and I see myself in many of my students. Making a comfortable environment - and let’s face it the poly resin chairs that the students have are far from comfortable - will help students be able to focus on putting forth their best effort.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a voice and additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
