This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We have a cd player and headphones, but no books on cd! When beginning to read, students learn best when hearing a story first read by somebody else. Students will be able to listen to their favorite stories and become better readers at the same time!
My students are hardworking 2nd grade students in Baltimore, Maryland.
Our school is located in a high need area and we are Title I. This year we are focusing on building ready fluency and comprehension because that is an area where our students are falling behind. With the right resources, I know that my students WILL succeed.
My Project
Our classroom currently has a cd player with 6 individual headphones to start our listening center. However, we do not have any books on CD to be used in the listening center. Students will use these books to practice and enhance their reading skills. Students will also be able to increase their knowledge in the areas of science and math, as we have wished for books to support those areas as well. Listening to books on tapes allows students to better be broken into groups to meet their specific needs. Some students also need the opportunity to listen to a story several times in order to fully comprehend it.
By donating to this project you will be providing the materials needed in order to complete our Listening Center.
Using the listening center in the classroom allows for differentiated instruction tailored to each students needs. Finally, you will be providing students with a rich literacy environment.
