My Students

I service the budding, little Mozartians from preschool age to 6th grade at two schools. As their music teacher, I'm always figuring out ways to lead them through "the mystery of music class” with joy full of surprises. Our students become fluent in Singlish as they enter the wondrous land of Sing-a-Lore each day. They come away dancing, singing, and moving to music comprehending the phrasing, structure, and timing behind it. They explore the textures of sound while learning the symbols, style, and art behind it. Their beat work causes their minds to expand, and their focus to increase while feeling its elements. They learn to incorporate all kinds of subjects from literature, spelling, math, history, and science while enjoying the beauty of the arts surrounding them.

My Project

As a published researcher of the effects of music on students will all kinds of limitations and learning disabilities (including ADD and ADHD), I quickly learned the powerful aid that music is for children. It gives them an outlet that allows for unique expression and quiets their ever-firing brains.

I am excited to present to each student a desk stand as they learn to read music expressing the love of each animal needing a comfortable home.

Puppets will show the ecosystem in musical dance drama combining wonderful illustrations from storybooks and musical borders about what really happens in the wild... and what could happen if we all supported the needs of those around us. From the far reaching sights of the universe to the very Mother Earth, students will learn to grasp the vast reaches of compassion from the largest to the tiniest of creatures while exploring "survival of the fittest." Colorful plates will be used to represent the planets and house puppet bugs and animals. Fans will represent the gardens and flowers many bugs and animals hide in when they are searching for a home. "Fur"ocious animal puppets will educate students about the kindlier consequences when compassion is their fate (over being attacked)! Younger students will use instruments to bring each puppet to life through textures and sounds representing each character and the challenges they face. Older students will learn ukulele chords to accompany melodies from fun ensemble books on a desk stand. Performances will showcase what has been mastered on instruments for parental and family engagement. All will take part in the caring of furry friends who find unique and differing ways to survive.
