My Students
Our students attend an NYC DOE Title I school in Brooklyn. Every day, our school warmly opens its doors to a highly diverse group of fifteen hundred middle school students. Our school is extra special because it welcomes students from throughout the borough opposed to being a zoned school.
Our goal for all students is to have them engage in transformation and differentiated learning experiences.
My students have a variety of learning levels within a class. It is important to create strategies and materials that encourage students to become independent and critical thinkers rather than just receivers of information.
My Project
I have requested hand sanitizer, tissues, Lysol wipes, and Lysol spray. My students enjoying coming to school and yet have the sniffles! Within a classroom environment is easy for germs to spread.
Many of my students miss multiple days of class due to illness and scramble to make up missing assignments and homework.
Tests have shown that missing 9 days of school is equivalent to 1/2 a month (49.5 hours) of instructional time lost. Each additional 9 days of absences continue to double the educational loss. Students being ill and missing much needed instructional time does not only result in lower grades but a deficiency in college and career readiness.
