This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sometimes the smallest gestures make the biggest difference, and sharing snacks is a simple yet powerful way to show compassion.

By sharing snacks, students begin to see the world through the eyes of another person because they practice empathy in action.

When they notice who might be hungry, who might feel left out, or who could use a small act of kindness, they step outside of their own needs and consider the feelings of others. This simple act of giving helps them understand that compassion means thinking beyond themselves and recognizing what someone else might need in the moment. Over time, these experiences of sharing build habits of empathy.

When students share, they begin to understand that their actions can help ease the difficulties someone else may be facing. Offering a snack, a kind word, or even a moment of attention teaches them that compassion is not only about noticing another person’s needs but also about responding to them. By practicing these small acts, students learn that they have the power to make another person’s day brighter and less heavy.

I can measure your students’ understanding of compassion by observing how they treat one another, listening to how they reflect on their actions, and noticing whether compassionate choices become part of their daily habits. Success shows up when students not only talk about kindness but also practice it—by sharing, including others, or offering help without being asked. Their reflections, whether in journals or discussions, should reveal that they can see situations from another person’s perspective and recognize how their actions affect others. Over time, true growth in compassion becomes clear when these behaviors happen naturally and consistently, shaping a classroom culture where care and empathy are the norm.
