Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, we strive to create a positive and supportive environment where there is an atmosphere of trust and students can feel free to be themselves.

With your support, we will establish a "Sharing Compassion" Campaign where the students will begin the school year learning about the value of kindness, empathy, and understanding towards others.

Students will learn how to see the world through the eyes of another person, work towards alleviating suffering in others, and demonstrate their understanding of compassion.

Project Details:

Learning About Compassion:

Students will be reading and sharing a selection of books featuring empathy-building activities. These resources will allow our students to explore and understand diverse perspectives, fostering empathy and compassion in their hearts. Students will begin to see the world through the eyes of other people and look at others in their lives with compassion and empathy.

Sharing Compassion:

Students will be provided with pre-made cards that they can use to perform acts of kindness for their peers, teachers, and community members. The students will use these cards to work toward alleviating suffering in others by celebrating loving kindness.

Compassionate Classroom:

We will create a compassionate learning environment by providing students with art supplies including markers, stickers, and colorful paper to create their own cards for others. All supplies will be stored in the IRIS bins in the classroom where students have free access to them. Our students will thrive in an environment where empathy and kindness are celebrated and practiced daily. This will provide daily opportunities for students to demonstrate compassion.

Students will discuss what compassion looks like, how they receive kindness from others, how they can share kindness with the world and how they can pay it forward by teaching their fellow students what compassion means to them.
