My Project
The addition of PCR and gel electrophoresis technology in our Honors Biology and AP Biology classrooms would provide students with a transformative, hands-on learning experience that brings molecular biology to life. These cutting-edge techniques are essential tools in genetics, forensic science, and biotechnology, allowing students to analyze DNA just as real-world scientists do. By incorporating PCR to amplify DNA and gel electrophoresis to visualize genetic material, students will gain a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts such as DNA replication, genetic variation, and gene expression. This hands-on approach reinforces key AP Biology curriculum topics while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Beyond enhancing comprehension, access to PCR and gel electrophoresis will better prepare students for future STEM opportunities.
These technologies are widely used in fields like medicine, agriculture, and environmental science, giving students early exposure to real-world applications that can inspire future careers. Engaging, inquiry-based labs—such as DNA fingerprinting or genetic testing simulations—will make learning more interactive and meaningful, helping students connect textbook knowledge to tangible biological processes. By integrating these advanced tools into our curriculum, we can create an enriched learning environment that not only strengthens students’ scientific foundations but also fuels their curiosity and passion for discovery.
