Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am a sixth grade teacher in Antioch, California. I teach at a Title One school in which we have a very diverse culture. I have two groups of students this year that are all English language learners. All of my students are learning English as a second language. Because my students are English language learners, they have an additional English class in the place of an elective. For this reason, they do not get to participate in art classes or other electives that would encourage their creativity. For this reason I am requesting jewelry making supplies for them to use during lunch and after school. I have shown my students jewelry that I have made at home. I enjoy this craft as a hobby. They have expressed an interest in learning how to make jewelry as well. I am hoping to acquire the needed supplies to teach t hem during lunch and once a week after school. With the beads, tools, and jewelry findings that I have requested, I can provide my students with a new skill and a new opportunity for self expression. I can teach them how to make earrings, necklaces, and bracelets and give them hours of creative fun!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
