As a math teacher dedicated to supporting every student’s learning journey, I am requesting a class set of calculators and a geometry classroom demonstration kit. These tools will greatly improve student engagement, understanding, and confidence—especially for those who need it the most.
Many of my students, particularly those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or who are significantly behind in math, struggle not because they don’t understand the concepts, but because complex calculations overwhelm them.
When students grasp the method but are held back by long arithmetic steps, it can be discouraging and often leads to disengagement. Calculators can bridge this gap. They allow students to focus on problem-solving, logic, and applying strategies rather than getting stuck on lengthy computations. This shift not only strengthens their conceptual understanding but also boosts their confidence and participation in class discussions.
Unfortunately, not all families can afford to purchase personal calculators. A class set would ensure equity—every student would have access to this essential tool, regardless of their financial background. It would also allow us to do group work and collaborative problem-solving without resource limitations.
In addition, I am requesting a geometry classroom demonstration kit. This includes oversized tools such as a protractor, compass, and triangle rulers that can be used on the whiteboard. With these larger visual aids, I will be able to clearly demonstrate geometric constructions and concepts to the whole class. This visual clarity is especially important for spatial understanding and will help students follow lessons more effectively.
With these resources, I will be better equipped to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Students who once struggled with basic computations can now focus on higher-level thinking, and all learners will benefit from clearer, more engaging geometry lessons.
