it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Learners will use playdough to create 3D sculptures of historical figures or monuments. The Statue of Liberty? a famous president? I don't know, yet. Let's see what the kids come up with! When students physically shape and mold materials like playdough, they're activity engaging in the learning process. It is a kinesthetic activity that will deepen their connection with any historical content, they aren't only reading about history but they are physically building it.
Students will be able to use texture and details using the construction paper as a backdrop to their playdough sculpture and they will write a short essay on the historical context behind their scene.
This will help learners process the significance of each topic. Such a hands on activity will really engage kids with US history in a tactile and visual way. Studies show that memory retention can be heightened through the act of sculpting because children will link motor skills with historical facts. Not. to mention, this small project will be fun and memorable.
Students will strengthen their attention to detail, their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Kids must think creatively about how to represent an abstract historical idea in a tangible form. They have to simplify complex historical events, which allows them to use spatial reasoning and problem solving skills.
