This donation project seeks to raise funds to provide copies of I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai for students as part of a unique cross-curricular study between English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies. By integrating Malala’s autobiography into both subjects, the project aims to foster a deeper understanding of global issues such as gender inequality, access to education, and the impact of activism. Students will read Malala's inspiring story in ELA, exploring themes of personal resilience, identity, and narrative structure.
The goal of this project is to provide both classes with a class set of I Am Malala to engage in both individual reading and collaborative learning.
Through guided discussions and research projects, students will explore how Malala’s life intersects with key topics in social justice, human rights, and global conflict. The project will include activities such as comparative analyses between Malala’s experiences and those of young people in other countries. By bringing together literature and social studies, students will gain a multifaceted understanding of how education serves as a tool for empowerment for all people.
Funds raised through the donation project will cover the costs of acquiring I Am Malala books. The project’s ultimate aim is not only to provide students with access to an important and inspiring book but also to empower them to think critically about the world around them and their role in advocating for positive change. By connecting literature and history in a meaningful way, the study of I Am Malala will inspire students to reflect on their own potential to make a difference, both locally and globally.
