In kindergarten shapes have to be all around us or we forget! In a Title 1 school we really have to keep practicing shapes, especially since our curriculum has changed and we need to know more. I would like to add more shapes around us. I currently have very few 3-D shape manipulatives and we now have to know some of those shapes as well as build them. I would like to add: a tub of 3-D geometric shapes, magna-sticks and balls to help us build shapes, a build and learn geometry kit, a set of I Know My Shapes student books and a cassette to go with the student books to my classroom. My students would not only be able to work with shapes during math and math center times, they would also be able to read about shapes in the literacy center, too. The more we can integrate themes and concepts the greater the chance of learning and retaining. Please help us to be better prepared for first grade by putting shapes all around us!
